decided to get massages today since we were hungover and still sore from the plane ride. warning: massages here are not like massages in the states. i've gotten a couple of massages back at home (one in Tahoe and one before the lsat) and have come out relaxed and relieved. that was not the case.
here, there is no ambiance created by candles, hot stones, and the faint sound of waterfalls in the background. there are no private rooms, only curtains. and they don't go easy on you. but it was $15 for 30 minutes, so i guess you get what you pay for...
if i could describe it in one word i would have to say intense. it was just a bombardment of rough movements and hard pinches into my neck and back. no mercy. he dug away at my back until the knots were out. if he hadn't had been blind (which the majority of masseuses here are), he would have definitely noticed my discomfort when i hung onto the side of the table for dear life. i feel like he was massaging my bone, which effing hurts!! he did some weird thing where he lifted up my leg while bending me to one side and pressing on my spine. i assume it's some age old chinese remedy for back pain or something.
so no, there was no happy ending. on the contrary, it was semi-uncomfortable and kind of hurt. but it's the hurt that feels good & that you know will pay off when ur knot free :)
